About

Patrick Campbell

Theatre Director | Arts Educator

Patrick Campbell (He/Him) is a NY based theatre director and educator. He prides himself on being a director who makes sense of the world through a playful, intentional, and queer lens. When Patrick was in the first grade, he sat on his aunt's lap at a local high school production of Oliver! and whispered in her ear "I could do that!”, setting the scene for what would eventually lead to the beginning of a career in theatre. While completing his undergraduate degree in Childhood Education, Patrick was heavily involved with the theater community on campus, performing in a multitude of faculty productions and serving as the campus president of the Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society. He went on to work with the National Student Leadership Conference at Fordham University as a Theatre Team Advisor, guiding high school students interested in pursuing theatre at the collegiate level through specialized classes and Broadway workshops. Recently, Patrick gained administrative experience working as the Director of Educational Theatre at a local, non-profit theater while directing a multitude of mainstage and educational productions. He specializes in creating stylized, immersive worlds rooted in a blend of reality and creativity. Patrick believes in leading with empathy and allowing both performers and designers to explore the material through play, informed by his background in education. With experience both on and off the stage, as an artist and as an administrator, Patrick excels in emphasizing the importance of positive collaboration in creation.

Panzi: Queen of the Pines!

This summer, the CM Performing Arts Center teamed up with The Arts Project of Cherry Grove for their Rainbow Connection: Arts in Education Program. In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Invasion of the Pines, participants had the unique opportunity to devise an original jukebox musical to commemorate Panzi, a trailblazing drag queen involved in the very first invasion. Through exclusive interviews with drag royalty and Cherry Grove locals, the team wrote and staged Panzi: Queen of the Pines to be seen at the Cherry Grove Community House and Theater, the oldest continually operating gay summer theater in the United States.
